MAINIn its aim to address critical needs in Liberia, FACE Africa—a Boston, MA-based nonprofit organization launched in 2007 by Liberian born Saran Kaba Jones—will host its First Annual Gala: A Clean Water Benefit. The Benefit will be held on Saturday, March 20th at the Taj Boston and will honor Peter Thum, founder of Ethos Water and former Vice President at Starbucks.
As one of FACE Africa’s four key programs, safe drinking water and basic sanitation remains a large problem in communities in Liberia where water borne diseases are prevalent.
The organization hopes to raise money to fund water and sanitation projects so that clean water will become a reality rather than a dream in a country in great need. Gala participants include the Liberian Ambassador to the United States M. Nathaniel Barnes, former NBA Star Dikembe Mutombo, and record producer Russell Simmons.
“We are extremely proud to be a part of the global effort to tackle the water and sanitation problem which affects more than 1 billion people worldwide,” says Ms. Kaba Jones. “By hosting this Gala, our hope is to increase access to safe drinking water and improved sanitation practices in Liberia and beyond.”
The gala will be hosted by Boston’s 7News Reporter Michelle Relerford and will include a cocktail reception, silent auction, dinner and entertainment. A portion of the proceeds will from the evening will benefit Partners In Health's Haiti Relief Efforts.
