African football players win titles in Finland, Sweden
Four African players are proud winners of the Finnish football premiership, helping HJK Helsinki defend its title.
HJK Helsinki crushed TPS 4-0 away on Saturday to retain the title with 78 points from 33 matches, 12 points above runner-up side RoPS.
Ghanaian international midfielder Anthony Annan, his compatriot, attacker Evans Mensah and Nigerians, defender Faith Obilor and forward Macauley Chrisantus made sure that HJK cement its place as Finland’s most succesful and biggest football club. Mensah scored four times in the campaign.
In Sweden, Nigerian female star Faith Ikidi won the female premiership, Damallsvenskan, as Pitea lifted the crown for the first time on the last day of the competition on Saturday
Pitea whipped Vaxjo 6-1 at home to edge out 2nd-placed Gothenburg on one point.
This is the second time that the Nigerian international has won Sweden’s top female football league. She first accomplished the feat in 2009 with Linkoping.
