Emene: Bright future for Afrobeat in Sweden

Afrobeat, a music genre with West African roots, is gaining influence in Sweden, says a well-noted events’ producer.

Speaking to Nordic Africa News recently Dominic Emene, who runs Afrodance Sweden, said the music is being played in popular Swedish clubs in Stockholm, the capital, noting that, “the furture is bright”

He added that there’s just one major hurdle that he and others involved in the promotion of the music must overcome: a demand that is more than supply.

Emene says Afrobeat is catching on in Sweden

Emene’s company is credited with holding high-flying Afrobeat gigs in the country and it is putting up a show featuring Nigerian star Iyanya this Saturday in the Swedish capital. His previous shows had stars like MC Galaxy, KC Wiz, Timaya, among others.

Afrobeat is now bubbling, Sweden is hot, we can have fun, he said, noting that after this show on Saturday, which also doubles as an all-white party, he plans to stage a thank-you party in November and then organize an Afrobeat festival next year.
