Liberia to stop cremating Ebola victims

ebo13The Liberian government is currently searching for a suitable site to be used for the burial of dead Ebola victims.

James Dorbor Jallah, the head for logistics of the Incidence Management System at the county’s health ministry disclosed on Wednesday at a press conference that many families of Ebola victims are still not pleased with the cremation of bodies.

“The incidence management system with support from international partners are currently in concluding stages of identifying a place suitable for burial,” Jallah said.

Jallah said the burial process will also provide families the opportunities to attend funeral of their love ones under a specific designed protocol which will be safe from contamination.

Recently Assistant Health Minister for Statistics and Head of Contact Tracing of the Incidence Management System, Chea Sanford Wesseh told journalists that cremation leads to fear that at times makes some of those infected with virus to flee.

Some people due to fear of cremation which is only being done in Monrovia, the capital, upon contracting the virus leave Monrovia to other counties, something according to Wesseh, is also contributing to the spread of the virus.
