Liberia’s Nobel Peace Laureate Leymah Roberta Gbowee on Sunday gave a $10,000 grant to the Youth For Change Incorporated (YOC), the chief organizer of the Liberia National Debate Championship among high schools.

Gbowee told officials of the group that she was impressed by their work and was therefore providing a two-year grant of US$5,000 a year to help them enhance the championship throughout the country.

She encouraged the YOC to go beyond just debating and include other areas, especially in writing.

Gbowee gave the grant on behalf of her institution, the Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa (GPFA), during the grand final of this year’s championship between Grand Gedeh and Montserrado Counties.

Grand Gedeh defeated Montserrado to win the crown. Orange Liberia sponsored the competition.
