Foreign Minister Børge Brende says Norway condemns the terrorist attacks in Brussels.

‘I condemn the attacks in Brussels in the strongest possible terms. My thoughts and sympathy are with those who have been hit by the attacks and their families. We stand together with Belgium and the Belgian people,’ the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs says.

Tuesday the international airport and a metro station in Brussels were hit by terrorist attacks. Many people are reported to have been killed or injured.

‘The terrorists’ aim was to hurt as many innocent people as possible. For most people, Brussels is equated with peaceful cooperation between European countries. Europe must respond clearly with solidarity in the fight against extremism and terrorism,’ said Mr Brende.

Norway’s King Harald has sent his condolences to King Filip of Belgium.
