Over 57,000 malignant cases of cancer were reported to the Cancer Register in 2012, according to the latest data from the National Health And Welfare. And it is skin cancer in particular that is on the rise, Swedish Radio News reports.

The biggest cancer groups are however prostate cancer among men and breast cancer among women, which represents nearly a third of the cases among men and women.

The total number of cancer cases is increasing steadily year by year. This is partly due to people living longer and therefore increasing the risk of being affected. But the health care service is also getting better at detecting cancer, which could explain part of the rise in the number of reported cases, Swedish Radio News reports.
