Swedish premiership side Djurgarden has condemned racist attacks against its Sierra Leonean star Mohammed Buya Turay following a league match.

In a release posted on its website, the football club spoke strongly against attacks and threats against the Turay or any of its players under whatever pretext- ethnicity, gender, religion, etc.

The club’s reaction follows numerous hate messages targeting to the Sierra Leonean international after Djurgarden whipped Elfsborg 2-0 on Sunday to move to 5th on the table.

In the 10th round encounter, Turay was brought down almost to the end of the first half for a penalty which led to the second goal.

The player was attacked online for diving but Djurgarden said a review  of the tape showed Turay was brought down by the opposing defender. Hitting back, Turay told his detractors to shut up and look for something to do.
