Ghanaian midfielder Kingsley Sarfo had a memorable start to the Swedish football premiership on Monday when he scored twice in just under two minutes to record his first ever goals in the top flight and land Sirius a 2-0 win on its return to the Allsvenskan, as the league is known.

The 22-year-old hit Djurgaden hard in the 54th minute on a rebound and doubled the lead a minute later with a powerful left-footed grounder to shock home fans at a packed Tele2 Arena in Stockholm, the capital.

Another African who struck two times on day one was Tunisia’s Issam Jebali. He grabbed two second half goals and set up another as Elfsborg drowned Kalmar 5-1 away. Jebali is in first full season with the club, having recorded seven league goals after a mid-season transfer from the second tier in 2016.

Last weekend also saw the beginning of battle in the Superettan, the second tier, and one African strike.

DR Congo veteran Rene Makondele brought things back to parity for Gefle in the 49th minute after his side had gone behind three minutes earlier to Frej thru a Dida Rashidi header. Makondele, who turns 35 soon, spent the last 13 years in the top flight with a number of top Swedish sides.
