Prime Minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson said in a radio interview with Bylgjan earlier today that it was an impossible situation for the government of Iceland, which is against joining the European Union, to at the same time be in talks to try to join the EU, visir.is reports.

“As I explained at Viðskiptaþingi (The Iceland Chamber of Commerce Conference, held last week) it is very strange, even unnatural, to be in talks with the European Union, working on fulfilling their demands, and giving the EU promises about this and that, signing a contract and then fighting against it,” he said.
