Results of controversial LSA election rejected

The recently announced results of the controversial Liberian Swedish Association (LSA) election have been rejected by candidates declared losers by the election commissioner.

Election commissioner Beyan Kesselly, who solely conducted the elections, Sunday announced the following candidates as winners: Selina Tutu Bryant (president), Angeline King (vice president), Charlotte Bee (general secretary) and Carina Andersson (financial secretary). Ms. Andersson later declined to take up her post for personal reasons.

Strong allegations of unfairness and lack of transparency rocked the election, polarizing the Liberian community in Sweden.

Below is the full text of the June 21, 2026 statement rejecting the election results:

Fellow Members,

We refer to the Elections Commission’s post dated today at 17:57 captioned “Official Announcement of LSA General Election Results 2026”.

1. Position on Results  For the record, Team Barry and Team Wilfred categorically reject the announced election results. We will not be occupying the position of Financial Secretary or any other seat allocated to us in the said announcement.

2. Constitutional Reliance  Our rejection is grounded in the LSA Constitution, Chapter 15, Article 1, Section 2, which provides:  “Candidates MUST have good moral conduct within and outside of the LSA community, subject to verification.”
Further, our Constitution states that all LSA documents are deemed public and shall be provided when requested by members.

3. Grounds for Rejection  We protest because: 1. The EC has failed to make police clearance certificates public upon member request, despite the constitutional requirement for verification of “good moral conduct” and the clause deeming all association documents public. Without verification, compliance with Ch.15 Art.1 Sec.2 cannot be confirmed. We call on the Leadership to immediately:  1. Suspend swearing-in of affected positions pending independent verification of eligibility under Ch.15 Art.1 Sec.2.

4. Appeal to Members  We thank our supporters for the trust reposed in us. We urge all members to remain calm and refrain from any form of confrontation. We will be embarking on a member engagement tour to update you in person.
Until the Constitution is respected and due process followed, we dissociate ourselves from the announced results.

In service to the community and the Constitution,
Team Barry and Team Wilfred
